Ingredients
  

For the Beef

  • 2 to 3 pounds beef chuck roast Choose one with good marbling for tenderness.
  • 1 cup beef broth Adds flavor to the au jus.
  • 1 cup water Used to create the cooking liquid.
  • 1 onion, sliced Enhances the flavor.
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced Aromatic addition.
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce Adds umami flavor.
  • Salt and pepper to taste Season thoroughly.

For Serving

  • 4 to 6 hoagie rolls Soft rolls perfect for the filling.
  • 8 slices provolone cheese Melts beautifully over the beef.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Place the beef chuck roast in the slow cooker.
  • Pour the beef broth and water over the roast.
  • Add the sliced onion and minced garlic into the slow cooker.
  • Sprinkle salt and pepper to taste.
  • Cover the slow cooker and set it to cook on low for about 8 hours or on high for 4 hours.

Shredding and Assembly

  • Once the cooking time is up and the meat is tender, remove it from the slow cooker and shred it with two forks.
  • Return the shredded beef to the au jus in the slow cooker and stir well.
  • Toast the hoagie rolls until golden brown.
  • Fill each toasted roll with a generous amount of shredded beef and top with slices of provolone cheese.

Serving

  • Set up a sandwich station with toasted rolls and individual cups of au jus for dipping.
  • Serve with side options like fries or salad as desired.

Notes
