  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Use high-quality unsalted butter for best results.
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar Sift before measuring if possible.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Use pure vanilla extract for better flavor.
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Sifted flour can lead to lighter cookies.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt Omit if using salted butter.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and powdered sugar with an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy (about 3-5 minutes).
  • Beat in the vanilla extract.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt, then gradually mix this into the creamed mixture until just combined.
  • Use a piping bag or cookie scoop to drop cookie dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving space between each cookie.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes or until lightly golden around the edges.
  • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Store cooled cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5-7 days. For freezing, place in a single layer on a baking sheet, freeze until solid, then store in a freezer-safe bag for up to 3 months.
