Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar using an electric mixer until light and fluffy (about 4-5 minutes).
Beat in the eggs, one at a time, ensuring each egg is fully incorporated before adding the next. Mix in the vanilla extract.
Alternately add the dry ingredients and milk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix just until combined.
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
