Instructions
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
In a medium bowl, mix the flour, oats, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until crumbly.
In a saucepan, combine chopped dates, sugar, and water. Cook over low heat for about 10 minutes until thickened.
Press half of the crumb mixture into a greased 9x13-inch pan to form the base layer.
Spread the warm date filling over the base layer evenly.
Crumble the remaining crumb mixture over the date filling and gently pat down.
Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until golden brown.
Cool for 15 minutes in the pan before cutting into bars.
