Ingredients
  

For the Cake

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix and ingredients required to prepare it
  • 1 cup chopped nuts pecans or walnuts work well
  • 1 cup caramel sauce
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 3 pieces eggs
  • 1 cup water

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two round cake pans.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix with water, softened butter, and eggs. Mix until well blended.
  • Add the unsweetened cocoa powder and mix again until smooth.
  • Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.

Baking

  • Bake for about 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Once baked, allow the cakes to cool for 10 minutes in the pans before transferring them onto wire racks to cool completely.

Making the Topping

  • While the cakes cool, prepare the topping. In a small saucepan, heat the caramel sauce over low heat until warm and smooth.
  • Add the sweetened condensed milk and chocolate chips, stirring until the chocolate chips melt and the mixture is uniform.
  • Stir in the chopped nuts and remove from the heat.

Layering and Serving

  • Once the cakes are completely cool, layer one cake on a serving plate. Pour half of the caramel topping over it, spreading it evenly.
  • Place the second cake on top and pour the remaining caramel topping over the top layer. Let the cake sit for about 15 minutes to set.

Notes
