Tuna Pasta Bake

A delicious and comforting dish made with pasta, tuna, and a rich tomato sauce, perfect for weeknight dinners.

Ingredients
  

For the sauce

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 800 g crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste (optional)
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 tbsp Italian mixed herbs
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

Main ingredients

  • 425 g canned chunk tuna, drained
  • 200 g spiral pasta
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • to taste olive oil for drizzling

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  • Cook the spiral pasta according to the packet instructions, reducing the cooking time by one minute. Drain and set aside.
  • In an ovenproof skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic and diced onion and cook for about three minutes until golden and fragrant.
  • Stir in the crushed tomatoes, water, Italian mixed herbs, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer, add the tomato paste if using, and let it simmer for about five minutes.
  • Turn off the heat and fold in the cooked pasta and drained tuna gently.
  • Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the mixture and drizzle with olive oil.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  • Allow the dish to cool for about three minutes before serving.

Notes
