  • 2 lbs ground beef or ground turkey Forms the hearty base of your chili.
  • 1 small onion, diced Adds flavor and sweetness.

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced Enhances the overall flavor.
  • 2 cans (14.5 oz each) diced tomatoes Introduces acidity and sweetness.
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce Creates a velvety texture.
  • 2 cups beef broth Enriches the chili and adjusts the consistency.
  • 2 cans (15 oz each) kidney beans, drained and rinsed Adds creaminess and protein.
  • 1 can (15 oz) pinto beans, drained and rinsed Provides a lovely textural contrast.
  • 2-3 tbsp chili powder The essential spice that defines the chili's flavor.
  • 1 tsp cumin Offers earthy, smoky notes.
  • 1 tsp paprika Adds a bit of smoky warmth.
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper (optional) For an extra kick of heat.
  • to taste salt and black pepper Balances the flavors.

Preparation

  • Start by gathering all your ingredients. Dice the onion and green bell pepper, and mince the garlic.

Cooking the Chili

  • In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat a splash of oil over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef or turkey and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Add the diced onion and green bell pepper to the pot and sauté for about 5 minutes until they start to soften. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  • Season with salt, black pepper, chili powder, cumin, and paprika. Stir to coat evenly.
  • Pour in the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and beef broth. Stir to combine.
  • Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer for at least 30 minutes.
  • Stir in the kidney beans and pinto beans. Cook for an additional 10-15 minutes.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.

Serving

  • Ladle the chili into bowls and serve with desired toppings.
