Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients

  • 2 lbs ground beef (or ground turkey) Use ground turkey for a lighter version.
  • 1 small onion, diced Adds sweetness.
  • 1 large green bell pepper, diced For added flavor and texture.
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced Enhances flavor.
  • 2 cans (14.5 oz each) diced tomatoes Adds acidity and sweetness.
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce Thickens the chili.
  • 2 cups beef broth For a rich flavor.
  • 2 cans (15 oz each) kidney beans, drained and rinsed Provides protein and fiber.
  • 1 can (15 oz) pinto beans, drained and rinsed Adds creaminess.

Spices

  • 2-3 tbsp chili powder Adjust based on desired spice level.
  • 1 tsp cumin For earthy flavor.
  • 1 tsp paprika Adds color and mild flavor.
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper (optional) Use for heat.
  • to taste Salt and black pepper Add to season.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Chop the onion, bell pepper, and garlic, and have all canned ingredients ready.

Cooking

  • In a large pot over medium heat, brown the ground beef (or turkey) until thoroughly cooked. Drain excess fat.
  • Add the diced onion and green bell pepper to the pot. Cook until vegetables soften.
  • Stir in minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  • Add chili powder, cumin, paprika, and cayenne pepper to meat and vegetables; stir to combine.
  • Add diced tomatoes and tomato sauce to the pot, stirring well, scraping any browned bits from the bottom.
  • Pour in beef broth; bring to a gentle boil, reduce heat, and let simmer for 30-40 minutes.
  • Add drained kidney and pinto beans; gently stir and cook for an additional 10 minutes.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and black pepper if needed.

Serving

  • Ladle chili into bowls and top with your choice of toppings.

Notes

For more intense flavors, let the chili simmer longer. Adjust spice levels as per your taste. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
