Ingredients
  

For the spice rub

  • 2 tablespoons kosher salt Generously applies for seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper Used in spice rub
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika Adds smoky flavor
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder Enhances taste
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder Enhances flavor profile

For the brisket

  • 4-5 lbs beef brisket Select a brisket with good marbling for tenderness
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce Used for glazing during the last hour of cooking
  • N/A wood chips for smoking Optional, choose flavors based on preference

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your smoker or grill to 225°F (107°C).
  • In a small bowl, mix together kosher salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder to create the spice rub.
  • Generously apply the spice mixture all over the brisket.

Cooking

  • Place the seasoned brisket in the preheated smoker or grill.
  • Cook for approximately 6-8 hours, monitoring the internal temperature, aiming for 190°F (88°C).
  • During the last hour of cooking, brush the brisket with barbecue sauce.

Resting and Serving

  • Once the brisket reaches the desired temperature, remove it from heat and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.
  • Slice against the grain and serve on a platter with additional barbecue sauce on the side.

Notes

Store leftover brisket by wrapping it tightly in plastic wrap or aluminum foil and refrigerate for up to 3-4 days, or freeze for longer storage. Experiment with different rubs, sauces, and cooking methods for variations.
