Main Ingredients

  • 3 cups short or medium grain rice Choose high-quality rice for best results.
  • 3 cups water This is used for cooking the rice.
  • 2 medium sweet potatoes No need to peel if you prefer the skin.
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic Adds a flavorful kick.
  • 3 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce Can substitute with gluten-free soy sauce.
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil Adds richness and flavor.
  • 2 teaspoons toasted sesame seeds For garnish and added crunch.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Soak the rice in water for about 30 minutes to remove excess starch, then rinse thoroughly until the water runs clear.
  • While the rice is soaking, scrub the sweet potatoes under running water to remove any dirt.

Cooking

  • Place the rinsed rice into your rice cooker and add 3 cups of water.
  • Place the whole sweet potatoes on top of the rice to steam while cooking.
  • Close the lid of the rice cooker and select the normal cooking setting, usually taking around 20-30 minutes.
  • Once cooked, open the rice cooker, break the sweet potatoes into bite-sized pieces, and mix them into the rice.
  • Mix the soy sauce, minced garlic, and sesame oil in a small bowl, then pour it over the rice and sweet potatoes, stirring well.
