  • 2 pounds sweet potatoes, peeled and diced Opt for firm sweet potatoes without blemishes.
  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey Use good quality ground meat for better flavor.
  • 1 can black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can diced fire-roasted tomatoes with juice Adds a smoky flavor.
  • 1 cup chicken or vegetable broth Enhances flavors and adds moisture.

Spices

  • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 0.5 teaspoon chili powder Adjust to taste.
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef or turkey and cook until deep brown, about 5 to 7 minutes, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  • Peel and dice the sweet potatoes into small, even cubes, and set aside.

Cooking

  • Transfer the browned meat to a slow cooker. Add the diced sweet potatoes, drained black beans, and fire-roasted tomatoes with their juice.
  • Sprinkle the spices (smoked paprika, cumin, chili powder) and season with salt and pepper.
  • Pour in the broth and gently stir to combine everything. Cover and cook on low heat for about 4 hours, or until the sweet potatoes are tender.

Serving

  • Once cooked, give the chili a gentle stir, taste, and adjust seasoning if necessary. Ladle into bowls and garnish with fresh cilantro or a dollop of sour cream. Optionally, add crushed tortilla chips or shredded cheese.
