Ingredients
  

For the syrup

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar Used for the syrup

For the cranberries

  • 12 ounces fresh cranberries Look for firm berries with no blemishes
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar Used for coating the cranberries

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a medium saucepan, combine 1/2 cup of water and 1/2 cup of sugar. Heat over medium-high until simmering, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar.
  • Once the sugar is dissolved, add 12 ounces of fresh cranberries to the saucepan, stirring gently. Let them soak in the syrup for about 10 minutes.
  • Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with wax paper.

Coating

  • Drain the cranberries using a slotted spoon and spread them out in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Allow them to dry for at least 30 minutes.
  • Pour the remaining 1.5 cups of granulated sugar over the cranberries and gently stir until they are fully coated.
  • Let the cranberries dry for another hour until the sugar has hardened.

Storage

  • Transfer the sugared cranberries to an airtight container and keep them in a cool, dry place. They will stay fresh for up to one week.
