  • 1/4 cup green pepper, chopped
  • 1/4 cup mushrooms, fresh, chopped
  • 1 cup sour cream For creamy filling.
  • 1 lb Italian sausage (or ground beef)
  • 6 oz tomato paste
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, sliced or grated For topping.
  • Herbs or fresh garlic (optional) Add for flavor.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F and prepare a 10-inch pie plate by spraying it with non-stick cooking spray.
  • Take your cooked spaghetti and break it in half. Cook it in boiling salted water until it's just a couple of minutes shy of being fully done according to the package instructions.
  • In a skillet, melt your butter over medium heat. Add the chopped green pepper and onion to the pan. Sauté for a few minutes until the vegetables start to soften. Transfer them to a small bowl to cool slightly.

Mixing Fillings

  • Once cooled, stir in the sour cream with the sautéed vegetables until well combined.
  • In the same skillet, brown your Italian sausage or ground beef over medium heat. Drain any excess fat.
  • Add the tomato paste and water to the browned meat. Mix in garlic or herbs if desired. Let simmer for about ten minutes without covering.
  • While the meat sauce simmers, mix your cooked and drained spaghetti with beaten eggs and Parmesan cheese in a bowl. Press this mixture into the prepared pie plate to form a crust.
  • Layer the sour cream and vegetable mixture over the spaghetti crust, followed by the savory meat sauce.

Baking

  • Place your pie in the oven and bake for around 25 minutes.
  • Sprinkle mozzarella cheese on top and return to the oven until melted and bubbly.

Serving

  • Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

Let Spaghetti Pie sit for about five minutes after baking to set, making it easier to slice. Garnish with freshly chopped herbs or extra Parmesan if desired.
