Main Ingredients

  • 4 pieces boneless, skinless chicken breasts Uniform in size for even cooking.
  • 1 cup sour cream Can substitute with Greek yogurt for a healthier option.
  • 1 packet onion soup mix
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella) Add on top before baking for extra cheesiness.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil For searing the chicken.
  • to taste Salt and pepper For seasoning.
  • as needed Fresh herbs for garnish Optional.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, combine the sour cream and onion soup mix. Mix well.
  • Season the chicken breasts with salt and pepper.

Cooking

  • In a large oven-safe skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat.
  • Once hot, add the chicken and sear for about 4–5 minutes on each side, until golden brown.
  • Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
  • Reduce heat to medium-low, pour the sour cream mixture into the skillet, and stir for a minute.
  • Return the chicken to the skillet, spooning some sauce over each piece.
  • Sprinkle shredded cheese on top.
  • Cover with a lid or aluminum foil and transfer to the preheated oven.
  • Bake for about 30–35 minutes or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  • Remove from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve with fluffy white rice or creamy mashed potatoes. Leftovers can be used in sandwiches or salads.
