  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 cup milk preferably whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round pan or line with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Alternately add the dry ingredients and milk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with flour. Mix gently.
  • Stir in the vanilla extract. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  • Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Cool the cake in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Use room temperature ingredients for best results. Always spoon and level your flour. For variations, consider adding lemon zest, berries, or cocoa powder.
