Ingredients
  

Main ingredients

  • 4 large sweet potatoes Choose firm and smooth potatoes.
  • 2 cups heavy cream Can be infused with herbs for extra flavor.
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese Add generously for rich flavor.
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese Sprinkle on top layer.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped (optional) Can substitute with other fresh herbs.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter For greasing the baking dish.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish with olive oil or butter.
  • Peel the sweet potatoes and slice them thinly, about 1/8 inch thick.
  • In a bowl, mix the heavy cream, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and thyme if using.

Layering and Baking

  • Layer a third of the sweet potato slices in the prepared dish, followed by a third of the cream mixture and a sprinkle of cheddar cheese.
  • Repeat the layering process until all sweet potatoes are used, finishing with the cream mixture on top.
  • Sprinkle the Parmesan cheese evenly over the top layer of cream.
  • Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 30 minutes until the top is golden and the sweet potatoes are tender.
  • Let the dish sit for about 10 minutes before serving to allow it to set.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding a pinch of nutmeg or experimenting with different cheeses. Allowing the dish to rest improves texture when serving.
