Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the cubed steak and season with salt, pepper, and paprika. Brown the steak on all sides, which should take about 5-7 minutes. Remove the steak and set it aside.
  • In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and cook until transparent, about 3 minutes. Add in the minced garlic and cook for another minute, stirring constantly to avoid burning.
  • Stir in the Worcestershire sauce and the thyme, then pour in the beef broth. Bring to a simmer and let it cook for 2-3 minutes.

Assembly

  • In a baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, then add half of the cooked steak mixture, followed by half of the heavy cream. Repeat with the remaining potatoes, steak, and cream.
  • Finally, top the casserole with shredded cheese. Cover it with aluminum foil to prevent burning.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is bubbling and golden brown.
  • Once done, let it rest for about 10 minutes before serving.
