Preparation

  • Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

  • In another bowl, whisk together the wet ingredients: buttermilk, egg, vegetable oil, red food coloring, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Pour the wet mixture into the dry mixture and gently combine with a spatula, ensuring not to overmix.

Cooking

  • Pour batter into the preheated waffle iron and cook for about 5 minutes, or until waffles are fluffy and deep red.
