A delightful twist on the classic Philly cheesesteak sandwich, these bowls feature tender beef, sautéed peppers, onions, and melted cheese served over a hearty grain base.

  • 1 pound thinly sliced beef (such as sirloin or flank) Use high-quality, thinly sliced beef for best results.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil For sautéing the vegetables.
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (such as provolone, mozzarella, or cheddar) Mixing different cheeses can enhance the flavor.
  • 3 cups cooked rice or preferred grain Quinoa or salad can be used as alternatives.
  • for garnish Fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onions and bell peppers and sauté for about 5 minutes until they soften.
  • Stir in the minced garlic, and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  • Push the vegetables to one side of the skillet and add the sliced beef. Season with salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Cook the beef for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally until it's cooked through and browned.
  • Once the meat is cooked, mix everything in the skillet together and remove from heat.
  • Divide the cooked rice or grain among bowls.
  • Top each bowl with the beef and vegetable mixture.
  • Sprinkle shredded cheese on top. You can either serve it as is or pop the bowls into the oven for a few minutes to further melt the cheese.
  • Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

For a spicier version, add jalapeños or chipotle peppers. Customize with toppings like diced tomatoes or additional herbs for flavor.
