Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Ice Cream Maker
  • Airtight Container

Ingredients

  • cups fresh squeezed orange juice (from 6-8 oranges)
  • Tbsp. lemon juice or substitute if needed
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar adjust according to sweetness of oranges
  • 2 cups heavy cream for a thick and creamy texture
  • 1 Tbsp. orange Jello optional, can be replaced with orange oil for flavor

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, combine fresh orange juice, lemon juice, and sugar. Stir until the sugar dissolves completely.
  • Whisk in the heavy cream gently to maintain a light texture. Add orange Jello or orange oil and mix well.
  • Chill the mixture and your ice cream maker's bowl according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Pour the chilled mixture into the ice cream maker and churn until thick and creamy.
  • If you don't have an ice cream maker, divide the mixture into ziplock bags, double-bag them for safety, and place in a larger container filled with ice and rock salt. Shake for about 20 minutes until thickened, then transfer to the freezer.
  • Store the ice cream in an airtight container with plastic wrap on the surface to prevent ice crystals from forming. Freeze for 1-2 weeks for the best texture and flavor.
