Preparation of the Mixture

  • Begin by heating the heavy cream in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring until it approaches a simmer without boiling.
  • Remove the cream from the heat and add the chopped dark chocolate, letting it sit to soften for a moment.
  • Stir gently until the mixture is smooth and the chocolate is fully melted.
  • Incorporate the confectioners' sugar, orange zest, and vanilla extract, stirring until well combined.

Chilling and Shaping

  • Pour the truffle mixture into a bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for about 2 hours until firm.
  • Scoop out small amounts of the mixture and roll them into balls using your palms.

Coating and Serving

  • Prepare a shallow plate with cocoa powder or chocolate sprinkles, and roll each truffle in the coating until fully covered.
  • Place the coated truffles on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and refrigerate until ready to serve.
