  • A pinch of salt Balances the sweetness.
  • Optional: 1 drop food coloring (orange) For a more intense color.

Preparation

  • Beat the softened butter in a large mixing bowl with an electric mixer at medium speed until creamy and light, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Gradually add the powdered sugar to the butter, mixing on low speed to prevent spilling. Increase speed to medium and continue mixing until combined.
  • Add the fresh orange juice, orange zest, vanilla extract, and salt. Beat on medium-high speed for another 2-3 minutes until fluffy and smooth.
  • If desired, stir in a drop of orange food coloring until you achieve the desired shade.
  • Taste and adjust orange juice or sugar as needed for flavor and consistency.

Serving

  • Slather the frosting on cakes or cupcakes, particularly vanilla, chocolate, or almond-flavored bases.
  • Pipe the frosting using a piping bag for swirls or rosettes.
  • Sandwich between cookies or dollop onto brownies.
  • Use to top pancakes or waffles for a special breakfast treat.
