Ingredients
  

Brownie Base

  • 3/4 cup butter, melted Can be melted in microwave or stovetop.
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs Room temperature for best results.
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons orange zest Freshly grated for best flavor.
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour Additional to make a total of 1/2 cup + 2 tablespoons.
  • 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips Alternatively, use chopped chocolate.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Prepare an 8×8-inch baking pan lined with parchment paper.

Mixing

  • Melt the butter in a microwave-safe bowl until completely liquid.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine melted butter, light brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Mix until smooth.
  • Add the eggs, vanilla extract, and orange zest. Mix until glossy.
  • In another bowl, whisk together cocoa powder, salt, and all-purpose flour. Gradually add to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
  • Fold in the semisweet chocolate chips.

Baking

  • Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading evenly.
  • Bake for 28 to 40 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick.
  • Let the brownies cool completely in the pan before transferring them to a cutting board and slicing into squares.

Notes

For serving, dust with powdered sugar, serve with ice cream, or drizzle with orange glaze. They can be stored at room temperature for up to three days, in the fridge for a week, or frozen for up to three months.
