Ingredients

Crust Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cups unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 0.25 tsp salt

Filling Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cups fresh orange juice (about 4-5 oranges)
  • Zest of 2 oranges
  • 0.5 cups powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the softened butter and granulated sugar. Cream them together until light and fluffy.
  • Add the flour, baking powder, and salt to the mixture. Stir until everything blends well.
  • Press the mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish to form the crust.
  • Bake the crust for about 15 minutes, or until it turns a light golden brown. Remove it from the oven and let it cool slightly.

Making the Filling

  • In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, fresh orange juice, orange zest, and additional sugar until smooth.
  • Pour the orange mixture over the crust and return it to the oven.
  • Bake for an additional 20-25 minutes until the filling sets and becomes slightly golden. It should jiggle just a bit when you shake the pan.
  • Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan. Dust with powdered sugar before cutting them into squares.
