For the garlic toast

  • 4 large slices bread (your choice) Sourdough or Italian works well.
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or your favorite)
  • to taste fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Preparation of the filling

  • Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and bell pepper, cooking until they soften.
  • Stir in the minced garlic until fragrant, usually about 30 seconds.
  • Add the ground meat to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it into small pieces as it cooks.
  • Once the meat is fully cooked, drain any excess fat.
  • Stir in the tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, chili powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Allow the mixture to simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Preparation of garlic toast

  • While the filling simmers, prepare the garlic toast by preheating your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Place your slices of bread on a baking sheet. Spread a thin layer of olive oil across each slice and sprinkle with garlic powder.
  • Toast in the oven for about 10 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

Assembly

  • Once the filling is ready, spoon a generous amount onto each piece of toasted bread.
  • Top with shredded cheese and return to the oven for a few minutes until the cheese melts.
  • Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
