  • 2 pounds round steak Cut into serving-sized pieces.
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour For dredging the beef.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil For browning the steak.
  • 1 large onion, sliced Adds sweetness and flavor.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Enhances the aroma.
  • 1 can (15 ounces) diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 leaf bay leaf Removed before serving.
  • 1 cup carrots, sliced Adds sweetness and color.
  • 2 cups mushrooms, sliced (optional) For added flavor and texture.
  • to taste Salt and pepper For seasoning.
  • for garnish Fresh parsley Optional, for color and flavor.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Cut the round steak into serving-sized pieces. Season with salt and pepper, then dredge in flour, shaking off excess flour.
  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Brown the steak pieces in batches for 3-4 minutes on each side. Set aside.

Cooking

  • In the same skillet, cook the sliced onions until softened, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and sauté for another minute.
  • Add diced tomatoes, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, oregano, and bay leaf. Stir to combine.
  • Return the browned steak to the skillet and nestle it into the sauce. Bring to a gentle simmer.
  • Add sliced carrots and optional mushrooms. Cover and let cook on low heat for 1.5 to 2 hours until the meat is tender.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Remove bay leaf before serving.

Notes
