Ingredients
  

For the meatballs

  • 1 pound ground beef (or chicken) Use fresh meat for best results.
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs Gluten-free breadcrumbs can be used for a gluten-free option.
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion Finely chopped for even distribution.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Garlic can be adjusted to taste.
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking)

For the tzatziki

  • 1 cup Greek yogurt Use full-fat for creaminess.
  • 1/2 cup cucumber, grated and drained Draining is essential to avoid watery tzatziki.
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice Fresh lemon juice is preferred.
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • to taste salt Adjust according to preference.

For serving

  • mini breads pita breads Warm before serving.
  • Fresh parsley or dill for garnish Adds color and flavor.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine ground meat, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, oregano, salt, black pepper, cumin, and egg. Mix until well combined.
  • Shape the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.

Cooking

  • Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add meatballs in batches, cooking until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Transfer meatballs to a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes or until fully cooked.
  • While the meatballs are baking, prepare the tzatziki. In a bowl, mix Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, dill, lemon juice, minced garlic, and salt. Adjust seasoning as needed.
  • Warm pita breads in the oven or a dry skillet until soft and pliable.

Serving

  • To serve, place a few meatballs on a pita, drizzle with tzatziki, and garnish with fresh parsley or dill. Enjoy warm!
