Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Peel the sweet potatoes and cut them into uniform cubes.
  • Place the cubed sweet potatoes in a large pot and cover them with water. Add a pinch of salt.
  • Bring the pot to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat and let them simmer for about 15 minutes or until fork-tender.
  • Drain the sweet potatoes and transfer them to a large mixing bowl.
  • Add the butter, heavy cream, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, sea salt, and black pepper to the bowl.
  • Mash the sweet potatoes until you reach a smooth consistency.
  • Taste and adjust the seasoning, adding more salt or pepper as needed.

Baking

  • Transfer the mashed sweet potatoes to a baking dish and smooth out the top.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes until the top is slightly caramelized.
  • Remove from the oven and allow to rest for a few minutes before serving.
