Set up a Bain-Marie: Boil ½ cup of water in a pot, then place a heat-proof bowl on top. Add butter and marshmallows to the bowl.
Stir continuously for 2–4 minutes until you get a silky-smooth mixture. Remove from heat.
Stir in salt and add red food coloring a drop at a time until the desired color is achieved.
In a large bowl, prepare the Rice Bubbles. Pour the warm marshmallow mix over the cereal and fold quickly to coat.
Let the mixture cool slightly, then oil your hands and shape the mixture into oval forms. Use a butter knife to create a shallow groove down the middle.
Dip a toothpick in food coloring and trace squiggly veins on the surface for decoration.
