Ingredients

For the Chicken Patties

  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil for cooking

For the Assembly

  • 4 pieces whole wheat burger buns
  • to taste lettuce leaves
  • to taste sliced tomatoes
  • to taste sliced red onion
  • to taste pickles

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground chicken, maple syrup, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well using your hands or a spoon until combined but don’t overwork the mixture.
  • Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each into a patty about 1/2 inch thick. Use your thumb to make a small indentation in the center of each patty to help them cook evenly.

Cooking

  • Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the chicken patties to the skillet.
  • Cook for about 6-7 minutes on each side or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) and the patties are golden brown.

Assembly

  • While the patties cook, lightly toast the burger buns in a separate pan or under the broiler until golden.
  • Assemble your burgers by placing a chicken patty on the bottom half of each bun. Top with lettuce, sliced tomatoes, red onion, and pickles. Finish with the top bun.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy the delicious flavors.
