Ingredients

Cookie Ingredients

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract

Frosting Ingredients

  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • Assorted food coloring For frosting
  • Sprinkles optional, for topping

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract into the creamed mixture. Beat to combine well.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture. Mix just until combined. Do not overmix.

Baking

  • Use a cookie scoop or your hands to form small balls of dough, placing them on the prepared baking sheet. Leave some space between each cookie, as they will spread slightly while baking.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are just starting to turn golden.
  • Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting

  • While the cookies are cooling, prepare the frosting. In a small bowl, mix the powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Adjust the thickness by adding more powdered sugar or milk as needed.
  • Divide the frosting into separate bowls if you want to add food coloring. Mix your desired colors and then frost the cooled cookies.
  • Top with sprinkles if you like.
  • Allow the frosting to set before serving.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container. Frosted cookies should have parchment paper between layers to prevent sticking. Can freeze plain cookies before frosting for longer storage.
