Ingredients
  

Meat

  • 1 lb ground beef Can use lean ground turkey for a healthier option.
  • 1 lb sweet Italian sausage Links should be casings removed.

Vegetables and Aromatics

  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Canned Ingredients

  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed

Liquids

  • 2 cups beef broth

Spices and Seasoning

  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • to taste Salt and pepper Add according to preference.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Heat a large pot over medium heat.
  • Add the ground beef and sweet Italian sausage, stirring them together until browned. Drain excess fat.
  • Add chopped onion and minced garlic; cook until the onion is soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.

Cooking

  • Stir in the diced tomatoes, kidney beans, and black beans.
  • Pour in the beef broth, mixing well.
  • Add chili powder and cumin, then season with salt and pepper.
  • Increase heat to bring chili to a boil, then reduce heat and let simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning before serving.

Notes

Consider letting the chili sit for a few hours or overnight after cooking for better flavor. Add toppings like shredded cheese, sour cream, or fresh cilantro for extra flavor. Optionally, serve with crispy tortilla chips or warm bread.
