Hamburger Steaks in Creamy Dill Sauce

Ingredients
  

For the Patties

  • 1 pound ground beef Use 80/20 blend for best results.
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped Sautéing enhances flavor.
  • 1 clove garlic, minced Add with onion for better taste.
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs For binding the patties.
  • 1 egg Acts as a binder.
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil For frying the patties.

For the Creamy Sauce

  • 1 cup beef broth Scrape the browned bits for flavor.
  • 1 cup heavy cream Makes the sauce rich and creamy.
  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill, chopped Use fresh for best flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard Adds depth to the sauce.
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce Enhances umami flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, breadcrumbs, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix until everything is well incorporated.
  • Divide the mixture into equal portions and form patties.

Cooking

  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through. Remove them from the skillet and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add beef broth, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom. Let it simmer for a few minutes.
  • Stir in the heavy cream, chopped dill, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix well and let the sauce simmer until it thickens slightly.
  • Return the patties to the skillet, coating them in the creamy sauce. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to heat everything through.
  • Serve warm, smothered in the creamy dill sauce.

Notes

For more flavor, consider experimenting with different types of mustard and herbs like parsley or thyme. If the sauce thickens too much while reheating, add a splash of beef broth or cream to loosen it up.
