Ground Beef Philly Cheesesteaks

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef 80/20 fat content recommended for best flavor and juiciness.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil For sautéing vegetables.
  • 1 large onion, sliced thin
  • 1 large green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 large red bell pepper, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce For added flavor.
  • 4 slices provolone cheese Or your choice of cheese.
  • 4 hoagie rolls or sub sandwich buns
  • to taste Salt and pepper For seasoning.
  • optional sliced mushrooms or additional toppings like hot peppers For added customization.

Instructions
 

Cooking

  • Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the sliced onions and peppers, cooking until they soften, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 more minute until fragrant.
  • Push the vegetables to the side of the skillet and add the ground beef. Break it up with a spatula and cook until browned, about 6-8 minutes.
  • Drain excess fat if necessary.
  • Season the mixture with salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir everything together until well combined. Allow it to cook for another 2 minutes.
  • Place slices of provolone cheese on top of the meat mixture. Cover the skillet with a lid or foil for a minute or two, letting the cheese melt.
  • While the cheese melts, toast the hoagie rolls in an oven or skillet until lightly golden.
  • Remove the skillet from heat and scoop the cheesesteak mixture into the toasted rolls. Serve immediately.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Reheat in a skillet to preserve texture. For variations, try ground turkey or different vegetables and cheeses.
