  • 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water to thicken the sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil optional

Instructions

Marinating the Chicken

  • In a bowl, combine the gluten-free flour, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk the egg lightly.
  • Dip the chicken pieces into the egg, letting excess drip off, and then coat with the flour mixture. Ensure even coverage.

Cooking the Chicken

  • Heat your frying oil in a large pan over medium heat.
  • Once hot, fry the coated chicken pieces in batches until they are golden brown and cooked through, about 5-6 minutes per batch.
  • Remove the fried chicken and drain on paper towels.

Making the Sauce

  • In the same pan, combine the orange juice, honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and grated ginger. Stir and bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat.
  • Stir in the cornstarch water mixture and allow to cook until the sauce thickens, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Adjust the sweetness or tanginess according to your preference.

Combining and Serving

  • Add the crispy chicken back into the pan, tossing to coat in the sauce.
  • If using, drizzle the sesame oil over the chicken for added flavor.
  • Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

To ensure crispiness, do not crowd the pan while frying. For leftovers, reheat in a skillet over low heat instead of the microwave. Consider adding vegetables to the sauce for extra nutrition.
