Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Mix-ins

  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional) Can use walnuts, pecans, or almonds.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  • In a medium bowl, mix together the cocoa powder, flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until fluffy.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then mix in the vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined. Do not overmix.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts until evenly distributed.
  • Use a cookie scoop or tablespoon to drop mounds of dough onto your prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, until edges are set and tops are slightly cracked.
  • Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

For thicker cookies, chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking. For extra flavor, consider adding espresso powder or spices like cinnamon.
