Ingredients
  

Fresh Ingredients

  • 4 medium ripe medium tomatoes Choose ripe tomatoes for optimal sweetness.
  • 1 large onion Use any variety based on preference.
  • 2 count jalapeño peppers Adjust according to heat preference.
  • 1 count green bell pepper Any color bell pepper can be used.
  • 3 cloves garlic Roast with skin on for better flavor.
  • 1/2 cup fresh cilantro Freshly chopped for best flavor.
  • 1 count lime (juiced) Fresh lime juice is preferred.

Spices and Seasoning

  • 1 teaspoon salt Adjust according to taste.
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper Freshly ground is recommended.
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin For added flavor depth.

Optional Ingredients

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your grill or oven broiler to medium heat.
  • Place tomatoes, onion, jalapeño peppers, green bell pepper, and garlic on the grill or under the broiler.
  • Roast for about 10 to 15 minutes, turning occasionally, until charred and softened.
  • Remove the ingredients from heat and let cool slightly.

Mixing

  • Once cool enough to handle, peel the skin off the garlic and peppers (if desired).
  • Chop tomatoes, onion, and peppers coarsely, adjusting size based on preference.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the chopped ingredients.
  • Add chopped cilantro, lime juice, salt, black pepper, and cumin.
  • Stir well to combine, tasting as you go to adjust seasoning as needed.

Serving

  • Allow the salsa to sit for at least 30 minutes at room temperature before serving.

Notes

This salsa can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3 to 5 days. For a smoother texture, blend in a food processor as desired. Customize with fruits or beans for variations.
