Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth and fluffy.
  • Add the large eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring gently until combined, being careful not to overmix.
  • Fold in the old-fashioned oats and chocolate chips using a spatula or wooden spoon.

Baking

  • Using rounded tablespoons of dough, drop them onto ungreased baking sheets, leaving space for spreading.
  • Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until the edges are golden brown and the centers remain soft.
  • Let cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container; you can add a slice of bread inside to retain moisture. For freezing, separate with parchment paper and place in a freezer-safe bag.
