Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup milk

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking dish.

Mixing Ingredients

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
  • In another bowl, cream together the softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the molasses.
  • Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, alternating with milk, until just combined.

Baking

  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the cake to cool in the pan for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
