Ingredients

Meatball Ingredients

  • 1 pound frozen meatballs
  • 2 cups marinara sauce Choose high-quality marinara sauce for best flavor.

Sub Assembly

  • 4 pieces hoagie rolls
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese For best results, use freshly shredded cheese.
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Begin by placing the frozen meatballs into your crockpot without thawing.
  • Pour the marinara sauce over the meatballs, ensuring they are well-coated.
  • Cover the crockpot and set the heating level. Cook on low for 4 to 6 hours or on high for 2 to 3 hours.

Toasting Rolls

  • While the meatballs are cooking, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • After cooking, check the doneness of the meatballs and if necessary, let them cook for an additional 30 minutes on low.
  • Place the hoagie rolls on a baking sheet and toast them in the oven for about 5 minutes.

Assembly

  • Once the rolls are toasted, remove them from the oven and fill them with the meatballs.
  • Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the filled rolls.
  • Broil the rolls for 1 to 2 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Serve immediately, optionally garnished with fresh basil or parsley.

Notes

For variations, try BBQ sauce instead of marinara or add sautéed vegetables for a healthier version.
