Ingredients

Main ingredients

  • 1 lb ground hamburger Use lean ground beef for a healthier option.
  • 4 cups potatoes, diced into small pieces Russet or Yukon gold potatoes are recommended.
  • 1 cup onion, chopped finely
  • 3 cups chicken or beef broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream For a lighter version, use low-fat milk and Greek yogurt.
  • 1 cup shredded cheese Cheddar or your favorite variety.
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Optional seasonings

  • garlic powder, thyme, or other spices To enhance flavor according to your preference.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Begin by browning the ground hamburger in a skillet over medium heat, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain the excess fat once fully cooked.
  • In your Crockpot, add the diced potatoes and chopped onion.

Cooking

  • Add the browned hamburger to the Crockpot.
  • Pour in the chicken or beef broth and stir gently to combine all the ingredients.
  • Set the Crockpot to low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours, stirring occasionally if possible.
  • Once the potatoes are tender, about 30 minutes before serving, stir in the heavy cream and shredded cheese.
  • Season with salt, pepper, and any additional spices to taste.

Serving

  • Serve hot in warm bowls, optionally garnishing with extra shredded cheese or fresh herbs.
  • Pair with warm bread or dinner rolls and offer toppings like crispy green onions or a dollop of sour cream.
