Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef Lean ground beef is recommended.
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can 28 ounces crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can 15 ounces tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste

Seasonings and Optional Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped optional For added flavor and nutrition.
  • 1 carrot, shredded optional For sweetness and nutrition.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef.
  • Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, stirring until the onions are translucent and the meat is fully cooked.
  • Drain excess fat from the beef mixture.
  • Transfer the beef mixture to the slow cooker.

Cooking

  • Add crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, and tomato paste to the crock pot.
  • Sprinkle in dried basil and oregano, then add salt and pepper to taste.
  • If using, add chopped bell pepper and shredded carrot.
  • Stir all ingredients together until well combined.
  • Cover and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours or on high for 3 to 4 hours.

Serving

  • Serve over your favorite pasta, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.
  • Pairs well with garlic bread or a garden salad.

Notes

For a thicker sauce, cook uncovered for the last hour. You can also use an immersion blender for a smoother consistency if preferred. Adjust seasonings according to taste.
