Ingredients
  

For the Beef Filling

  • 3 pounds beef chuck roast A quality cut is recommended for better flavor.
  • 1 cup beef broth Can increase for juicier beef.
  • 1 packet Italian dressing mix Adds robust flavor.
  • 1 jar giardiniera For a tangy kick.
  • 4 pieces hoagie rolls To serve the beef mixture.
  • 4 slices Provolone cheese Optional.
  • to taste Pepper Freshly ground is best.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Place the beef chuck roast into the crock pot, centered and with room around it.
  • Pour in the beef broth to ensure the meat is submerged.
  • Sprinkle the Italian dressing mix over the roast.
  • Cover the crock pot and set it to low heat for about 8 hours.
  • After 8 hours, check the beef for tenderness; it should shred easily.
  • Shred the beef inside the crock pot and stir it with the broth.

Assembly

  • Toast the hoagie rolls lightly, if desired.
  • Pile a generous amount of shredded beef onto each hoagie roll.
  • Top with a spoonful of giardiniera.
  • Add a slice of provolone cheese if using.

Notes

For extra flavors, sear the beef before adding to the crock pot, or add spices such as red pepper flakes. Store leftovers in juices for moisture. Freezing is recommended for longer storage.
