For the Beef

  • 2 pounds beef stew meat Cuts such as chuck roast or round steak can also be used.
  • 1 packet brown gravy mix For the gravy base.
  • 1 packet onion soup mix Adds flavor to the gravy.
  • 1 cup water To combine with the gravy and soup mixes.
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce Enhances flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder For additional flavor.
  • Salt to taste Salt and pepper For seasoning.
  • 1 tablespoon oil For browning the meat.
  • Optional chopped onions and mushrooms Add for extra flavor and nutrition.

Preparation

  • Season the beef stew meat generously with salt and pepper.
  • Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and brown the beef on all sides.
  • In a large bowl, mix the brown gravy mix and onion soup mix with water and Worcestershire sauce until smooth.

Cooking

  • Transfer the browned beef into the crock pot.
  • Pour the gravy mixture over the meat and sprinkle in the garlic powder.
  • Add optional ingredients like chopped onions and mushrooms if desired.
  • Cover and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours until beef is tender.
  • Check the meat for tenderness before serving.

Notes

For a richer flavor, consider using homemade stock. You can also adjust the thickness of the gravy with cornstarch and water if needed. Store leftovers in airtight containers and consume within 3-4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
