Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1 tbsp milk

Chocolate and Topping

  • 3.5 oz 85% cocoa dark chocolate bar, chopped
  • Flaky sea salt, for sprinkling

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and kosher salt.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter, granulated sugar, and maple syrup until smooth. Then add the egg yolk, milk, and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
  • Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until a dough forms.
  • Fold in the chopped dark chocolate until evenly distributed.
  • Using a large cookie scoop, portion out the dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them well apart.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, until the edges are golden brown and the center is slightly lighter.
  • Sprinkle with flaky sea salt immediately after removing from the oven.
  • Transfer cookies to a cooling rack and allow to cool completely.
