Italian Sausage

  • 1 pound ground Italian sausage

Pasta

  • 1 pound penne pasta

Sauce

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 0.5 yellow onion, minced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 0.5 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 5 ounces baby spinach
  • 1 cup shredded parmesan cheese

Instructions
 

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the penne pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground Italian sausage, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until browned and cooked through. Drain excess fat if needed.
  • Add the minced onion and garlic to the skillet. Sauté until the onion is translucent and fragrant.
  • Reduce heat to medium-low and pour in the heavy cream. Stir and let it simmer gently to combine flavors.
  • Stir in the baby spinach and cook until wilted, about 3 minutes.
  • Add the shredded parmesan cheese and stir until melted and the sauce is creamy.
  • Add the cooked penne pasta to the skillet and toss to coat evenly with the sauce.
  • Serve hot, optionally garnished with extra parmesan or red pepper flakes.

Notes

This dish pairs well with a simple side salad and garlic bread. You can customize by adding vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms.
