Bagel Ingredients

  • 1 cup cottage cheese Ensure it's well-drained.
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour Can substitute with gluten-free flour for gluten-free option.
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon honey (or maple syrup)
  • 1 large egg

Optional Toppings

  • sesame seeds Can be sprinkled on top before baking.
  • poppy seeds Can be sprinkled on top before baking.
  • everything bagel seasoning Can be sprinkled on top before baking.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine cottage cheese, honey, and egg. Stir until well blended.
  • In another bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the cottage cheese mixture. Stir just until combined; the dough may be sticky.
  • Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently a few times until smooth.
  • Divide the dough into 4 equal parts. Roll each piece into a rope about 12 inches long and pinch the ends together to form a circle.
  • Place the formed bagels on the prepared baking sheet and sprinkle optional toppings on top if desired.

Baking

  • Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the bagels are firm to the touch and golden brown on top.
  • Let them cool for a few minutes on a wire rack before serving.

Notes
