Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, granulated sugar, yeast, salt, ground cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix thoroughly to combine the dry ingredients.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the warmed milk, melted butter, and beaten eggs. Ensure that the mixture is not too hot, as it can kill the yeast.
  • Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture, stirring until it forms a dough.
  • Add the remaining flour, one cup at a time, until you achieve a smooth and elastic dough.
  • Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until it feels soft and elastic.
  • Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

Shaping and Baking

  • After the dough has risen, punch it down gently to release the air. Roll it out into a rectangular shape about 1/2 inch thick.
  • Spread the softened butter across the surface, then sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon mixture evenly over the buttered dough.
  • Cut the dough into strips about 1 inch wide. Take each strip, twist it into a knot, and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Cover the knots with a cloth and allow them to rise for another 30 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the knots for 18-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown.

Glazing

  • While the knots bake, mix together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract to create the glaze.
  • Once the knots are done baking, remove them from the oven and let them cool slightly before drizzling the glaze over them.
