  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure it's at room temperature
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 large egg At room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons milk Add as needed for dough consistency
  • to taste Sprinkles or icing for decorating Use as desired

Baking Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • In a small bowl, stir together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, white sugar, and egg until smooth.
  • Mix in the vanilla extract and almond extract.
  • Gradually blend in the dry ingredient mixture into the wet ingredients, adding milk as needed to achieve the right dough consistency.
  • Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of the dough into small balls and place them onto ungreased cookie sheets.
  • Flatten each ball slightly with the bottom of a glass to shape.
  • Sprinkle with decorative sugar or icing if desired.
  • Bake for about 8 to 10 minutes until golden around the edges.
  • Allow to cool on wire racks before serving.
