  • 32 pieces saltine crackers Base of the treat
  • 1 cup unsalted butter Essential for the toffee
  • 1 cup brown sugar Adds sweetness to the toffee
  • 2 cups chocolate chips Use high-quality for best flavor
  • 1 cup pecans Can substitute with other nuts
  • to taste Sprinkles Optional for decoration

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Line a 9x13-inch baking sheet with aluminum foil.
  • Lay out the saltine crackers in rows on the baking sheet to cover the entire surface.

Making the Toffee

  • In a medium saucepan, melt the unsalted butter and brown sugar over medium heat, stirring continuously.
  • Bring the mixture to a gentle boil and cook until it reaches 275°F (135°C) on a candy thermometer.
  • Once ready, pour the hot toffee evenly over the saltine crackers.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 4 minutes until the toffee begins bubbling.

Adding Chocolate and Nuts

  • Turn off the oven and leave the pan inside. Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot toffee and let sit for 1 minute to melt.
  • Spread the melted chocolate into an even layer using a spatula.
  • Sprinkle your choice of nuts over the chocolate layer, and add sprinkles if desired.

Cooling and Serving

  • Allow the Christmas Crack to cool completely until the chocolate hardens.
  • Once cool, break it into bite-sized pieces and serve.
